I
am a Birth Doula, Reiki Master, Sound Healer, Earth Keeper,
Activist, Mother, Perpetual student, and Founder of Peace Tree
Village.
I was
inspired to open Peace Tree Village over a year ago after becoming pregnant with
my third child and then miscarrying at 10 weeks gestation. I was stunned by the
loss of my pregnancy, but even more shocked by the way the community as
well as my neighbors originally reacted to my decision to have a home
birth. I had already given birth to both of my other children at home with
a midwife in Florida, and just couldn't understand how moving across state
lines somehow stripped me of my inherent rights to have my baby where,
when, how, and with whom I chose. I became an activist for the legalization of
Certified Professional Midwives in North Carolina and Nationwide. I joined the North Carolina
Friends of Midwives (NCFOM) and I am currently one of the Board of
Directors for this consumer-based organization. I also joined the North
Carolina Midwives Alliance (NCMA), Midwives Alliance for North America (MANA), North American
Registry of Midwives (NARM), Citizens for Midwifery (CfM), International
Cesearean Awareness Network (ICAN) and many other advocacy groups who are working
to improve choices in womens health care, advocate for informed
consent, and protect birthing rights and improve birthing
conditions everywhere.
Peace Tree Village started with
the vision of offering resources, support, education, and alternative
health care choices to women in their childbearing years, as well as
their families as a whole. We were to become a resource center, a referral
network, a safe-haven to express and educate ourselves about the laws and the
choices facing us with regards to pregnancy and birth, and a place to
celebrate and commune. We were driven to promote a sense of community that was supportive,
understanding, and compassionate about the challenges facing mothers in our
world today.
Many midwives, doulas, and childbirth
educators immediately aligned with Peace Tree's mission and felt
the resonance deep within themselves as well as witnessed it in the women
and families they served. A slow, but steady sort of underground momentum
began to emerge as more and more practitioners who served the birth and
holistic communities began to join our co-op and soon we grew into a
Village of 20+ holistic health and healing practitioners providing a wide
range of services filling any need, or niche that could possibly present
itself.
My own personal path
of growth, health, and healing has been facilitated and challenged by the work
I've done with Peace Tree Village. I have also traveled outside of the
US in an effort to help improve birthing conditions in third world
countries. I am currently planning a trip to Haiti sometime in 2010. I am fascinated by tribal cultures and their birthing practices
and am always working to discover, understand and assimilate the wisdom
our ancestors held in their hearts, minds, and souls.
My work with birth
has enhanced my spiritual practices and propelled me forward on my path of
service, self-awareness, forgiveness, and enlightenment. I am currently
working on my Reiki-Master-Teacher certification, studying the Human Energy
Field and the Chakras, engaging in Shamanic practices and study, incorporating
Sound Healing (crystal singing bowls, drumming, Native American flutes, etc.)
into my healing sessions and practicing past life regressions. I am interested
in crystals and colors and how they affect the auric bodies, as well as
intuitive guidance, divination, dowsing, scrying, journeying, and channeling.
Learning to use the sacred Tibetan Chakra tones is one of my favorite
practices and I use it almost every day.
I am also passionate
about my own children and all of the children of the world. This is a
very auspicious time to be born and all of the "little ones"
incarnating on our planet at this time are in desperate need of our love,
empathy, compassion, and understanding if we are to ever evolve to a point
where we can truly have and sustain Peace on the Planet. Being
an Earth Keeper is something I do as a way to preserve our precious
resources for our future generations, including my own. Peace Tree Village
is part of this shift towards conscientious living and sustainable
development. We recycle everything we can in-house, have furnished most of
the rooms with re-used furniture, we use Young Living, green and earth friendly
cleaning products and we only endorse and promote those other members of our
community that are living in right relationship with the earth and with
themselves. Peace Tree Village is constantly changing, ever-growing, always
learning and conscientiously invoking that which will keep us in line
with what serves the greater good and all of humanity. We are determined
to promote and practice holistic living, self-healing, compassionate community,
and co-operative teamwork.
